Surprising Reading

Reading is a flourishing business and retail centre based primarily on three industries, the 3 I’s – IT, Investment and Insurance; it is a high – value knowledge economy. The micro city is the headquarters of several British companies and the UK offices of foreign multinationals. It is also a major retail centre serving a large area of the Thames Valley. Reading is a key transport hub to many nearby towns, cities and London is only 22 minutes away.

British Gas, ING Direct, Microsoft, Oracle and Yell Group all have their headquarters in Reading. Prudential, the insurance company has a large presence in the city. Technology companies including Agilent Technologies, Cisco, Ericsson, Symantec, Verizon, LogicaCMG and Websense have chosen Reading as their base. All thes companies are located around Reading city centre or in the business parks including Thames Valley Park, Green Park Business Park and Arlington Business Park.

With a diverse, well educated and creative population, the city has some of the best performing schools in the UK, a red brick university leading the world in climate change study, one of the best shopping centres in the country, and is surrounded by unspoilt countryside and magnificent stretches of the river Thames. Reading also boasts Michelin Star restaurants; over five hundred listed buildings and monuments; boutique hotels; family friendly museums; two National Trails and two beautiful rivers on our doorstep.

Travelling in and around Reading

Reading by car:
The M4 motorway runs very close to the city providing easy access to London (65 kms / 40 miles), Slough (32 kms / 20 miles), Windsor (32 kms /20 miles), Maidenhead (24 kms / 15 miles), Ascot (22 kms / 14 miles) and Bracknell (18kms / 11 miles).

Reading by rail:
The city is a major hub in the national rail system providing excellent links to all major rail routes. Reading Train Station operates a frequent service to London Paddington, every 15 – 20 minutes with a journey time into the capital in under 30 minutes. Direct trains can also be taken to London Waterloo, Swindon, Oxford, Guildford, Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, South Wales, Exeter, Plymouth, Southampton, Bournemouth, Birmingham, and North England.

Reading by air:
Most of the major airports in the south of UK are within easy reach of Reading, including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City, Luton, Stansted, Southampton, Bournemouth, Bristol and Birmingham. The nearest airport, London Heathrow, is only 30 miles away by road
